The Moroccan Press Syndicate Condemns the Assassination of Journalist Hilmi Al-Faqawi

The National Syndicate of Moroccan Journalists expressed its deep condemnation of the assassination of journalist Hilmi Al-Faqawi, who died in a fire inside the journalists’ tent while performing his professional duty.

He is regarded as a “martyr witness” to the crimes committed by Israeli forces in the Palestinian territories.

The syndicate highlighted the tragic humanitarian situation in Palestine, especially in the besieged Gaza Strip, which suffers from daily acts of killing and destruction, as well as violations in the West Bank where Israeli soldiers and extremist settlers continuously attack. The syndicate pointed out the complicity of the international community and the unconditional support from the U.S. administration.

The syndicate emphasized that targeting any journalist is an attack on all journalists and on the right of people to access accurate information. It confirmed that the attack on the journalists’ tent in Khan Younis, despite the knowledge of its coordinates, is a blatant violation of international humanitarian law.

It is noteworthy that the media office in the Gaza Strip announced at the beginning of April that the number of journalists who have become martyrs has risen to 210 since the onset of the Gaza crisis.
